Cefoperazone (cefobid^(¢ç)) 0. 59m Single i.m. for Uncomplicated male Urethritis due to PPNG

Abstract
The prevalence of ©¬-lactamase producing N.G. resistant to penicillin are recently increased throughout the world. Susceptibiliy to various antibiotics, including penicillin, are also decreased in Non-PPNG strains. Spectinomycin is effective for these strains, but resistant strains to spectinomycin are also found in Seoul, Korea. Therefore new and reliable treatment regimens for both PPNG and non-PPNG infections have to be sought.
The effect of cefoperazone (cefobide¢ç), one of newer generation of cephalosporins, was in the treatment of uncomplicated male PPNG urethritis. Thirty two male uncomplicated gonorrheal patients who are found to be, infected by PPNG were treated with single dose ofcefoperazone 0. 5gm i. m.
Twenty nine patients were followed. Two patients (6.9%) failed to be cured. Seven patients (25.9%) were found to have postgonococcal urethritis (PGU). The cefoperazone MIC 90, tested by platedilution method, was 0.12¥ìg/ml.
